New here? Welcome. This is the door I wish someone had held open for me. Start with this.

If you found your way here from an article, a friend, or a link you almost did not click, I am really glad you came.

Here is who is talking. I am Karla, a pharmacist and a mother of three. I am the person my friends call before they call their doctor, before they answer the email from the school, before they decide whether they are overreacting. Three Little Lee is where I write it all down.

This blog is about motherhood, advocacy, and everything in between. Some weeks that is the exact words to use when a school oversteps. Some weeks it is lifestyle, culture, a coming-of-age moment, the ordinary magic of raising people. These are not different rooms, this is the door between them.

Before you go anywhere else

If you take one thing from this page, let it be this. The real conversation lives in my weekly note, Truly Yours. It is free, it is where I send the scripts and resources I do not put anywhere else, and it is the easiest way to keep what you find here. Come join me.

If you read nothing else, read these

I write about advocacy because I watched my mother become the advocate she never had. If you want to understand where all of this comes from, start with Playing Chess, Not Checkers. It is the story of the long game my mom played for us, and the one I am trying to play a few moves further for my own kids.

From there, read A Black mom showed up proud. They made her the enemy., because the world still treats an engaged Black mother like a threat instead of an invested interest holder.

Then the trilogy that ties the teaching to real life. The Time My Son Got It Right, the day it worked in a room I was not standing in. The Time My Daughter Got It Wrong, because getting it wrong is part of how they learn it.

Protect Them Before They Know They Need It, is the piece that pulls it all together.

And perhaps the most important of them all: NO. You cannot question my child without me. It protects your child while they are still learning all the skills they will need to carry them into and through adulthood.

However you got here

I hope you stay a while. If something here made you feel less alone, or a little bolder, do not go looking for it next time. Come sit with us in Truly Yours and I will bring the real conversation to you.
